Empowering leaders to lead again – without worrying about hurt feelings

As professionals in workplace performance, we help build personal and team resilience. However, leaders and organisations also need to step up and fix unhelpful or harming practices and processes. Some leaders feel mental health awareness is going too far, perhaps leading to a ‘hurt feelings’ culture or a ‘victim mentality’. To lead effectively, leaders need to understand what they ‘can’ do, not just what they ‘can’t’. They need to blend awareness with accountability and build an ‘adult’ culture where people can be challenged without getting ‘bent out of shape’ and leaders are liberated to build effective performance and culture.

Make it matter – creating learning experiences that promote behaviour change
As L&D professionals, we’re in the business of behaviour change – helping our learners do the things they need to make them and their organisations more successful. But changing behaviour is hard to do. Us humans know that we should behave responsibly, eat healthily and exercise regularly. But look at us. So how can we use human traits like curiosity, humour and pride to make our learning messages matter? Let’s stop telling people what to do and instead create irresistible behaviour-changing content for busy human beings.

Capturing the intangibles – can technology measure soft skills?
Although digital body language isn’t new, the ability to interpret digital body language and align it with soft skills is something very new – and we show how the latest technology and thinking enables this. Find out how critical behaviours and values, bespoke to your organisation, are now measurable and tangible with modern learning platform technology. This session brings L&D and HR together, using technology typically associated with L&D, but now able to add significant value to HR teams. Our message is that L&D and HR can achieve better results for their people and their organisations when working collaboratively.

Brave New World: How companies are using Virtual Reality to create empathy
Virtual Reality has the power to build our confidence, change our perspective and improve our performance. This session focuses on how companies are harnessing these benefits in order to strengthen their interpersonal skills training. To date, Make Real have created five interpersonal skills experiences for some of our largest clients. Making virtual teams work – 10 key principles
More global and virtually connected working means more dispersed and diverse teams and greater challenges. Virtual teams carry a lot of potential. In deploying virtual teams, organizations can gather the best human capital for the job, wherever in the world their people may be. Companies can reduce running costs, whilst allowing employees to manage work/life balance and interact with colleagues around the world. But there are a whole range of potential problems to avoid. This talk will look at 10 ways L&D can help overcome the challenges of virtual teams and facilitate more effective working to deliver business outcomes.

The unexpected consequence of business growth
Bigger doesn’t always mean better. When a business experiences growth we automatically assume it is a good thing. It may be for the bottom line, but growth can impact people, teams and organisations in unexpected ways. We will explore the unexpected consequences of growth, specifically looking at autonomy, accountability and managing change, allowing delegates to identify potential challenges they may face on their growth journey.
