Our Board Directors weigh in on this year’s Learning Connect, including their key takeaways, highlights, and what made it such an incredible event.
Tom McDowell – Learning Network Chair
Connect has always been a huge part of the network for me. One of the few conferences I always walked away from, knowing it was worth it. Having chaired it for 2 years, I find myself reflecting on how little has actually changed over the last decade.
Yes, new technology, new faces, some new terminology for old ideas, but in its bones, I see the same core conversations happening. Change, performance, inclusion, all great stuff, but nothing truly “new”. This might sound negative, but I don’t think it is. Seeing that we inevitably return to these topics tells me we are on the right track.
Yes our activity is shaped by the environment in which we work, but ultimately, we are all pulling towards the same goal. A more performant, inclusive, and resilient workforce. Thanks to everyone involved, I can’t wait to see you all at Connect 2025, and not just because I won’t be chairing it!
Paula Hughes – Learning Network Vice Chair
There were so many highlights at this year’s Connect. It was our biggest audience yet and it was so lovely to see so many new and familiar faces. The energy throughout the day was incredible. I spent most of the day in the debates, where I heard some fantastic discussions. I came away from the day feeling very inspired. And, because I can’t talk about an LN event without mentioning the food, this year’s catering was even better than last year’s! Mini Victoria sponges are always a winner in my eyes.
Richard Price – Technology Director
Connect is always an inspiring and career affirming event on the conference calendar. If you’re ever in any doubt about how amazing our Learning and Development community is, then spend a few minutes chatting to a stranger at Connect, and watch how they soon become a friend! I can’t wait for 2025’s Connect conference!
Helen Palmer – Mentoring Director
I loved meeting people in person, having short intense conversations and then helping them to physically connect with another member! I also loved the conversations I had with members about books!
Katerina Vourlakos – Events Director
One of the key aspects about Connect is having time to network! The importance of networks was highlighted during Cara North’s keynote speech. She explained how having a strong network helped her have an edge over her competition. She told an interviewer, she was bringing not only her knowledge and expertise, but her networks connections and insights. Connect promotes expanding and cultivating our networks.
Kim Ellis – Member Experience Director
Connect is so friendly, that’s what I love most about it. There isn’t a single attendee who I couldn’t walk up to and strike up a conversation. Connect is a happy conference, people catch up, inspire, get inspired and make new connections.
Yasmine Alani – Community Engagement Director
Connect is a very special place for like minded learning professionals to come together and exchange ideas in a community environment. It has the Goldilocks effect of not being too big or too small – meaning you can get to know people without feeling overwhelmed or pressured, and actually create meaningful connections! There was such a brilliant range of topics and speakers – I left feeling so full of joy and inspiration! Can’t wait for next year now 😊
