eLN Learning Technologies Awards Showcase Webinar Series – The Method

This event has passed.

When you live with a life-limiting condition, there are no off days. Every aspect of your daily life is plagued by physical discomfort, practical limitations, and anguishing decisions. Communicating the ways in which effective treatments can transform the lives of patients requires a truly profound appreciation of the patient experience – it’s not just a case of understanding what living with the condition is like, you need to know how it feels. The award-winning ‘A Life in a Day’ learning experience was created to meet that need. A groundbreaking immersive 24 hour-long live simulation in which you become the patient and experience what it is like to live, work and socialise with a condition or disease. Delivered entirely via mobile; A Life in a Day uses a unique mix of interactive challenges, live role-play, props, and hidden wearables to compel participants to act, talk and feel like they have a life-limiting condition – stepping into the shoes of the patients they are trying to help.
A Life in a Day started as a client project, Mark Doyle knew it was a good idea but had no inkling of the extraordinary journey they were about to begin. What started as a programme designed for 20 users, has now wowed audiences in over 55 countries.  The team at The Method are continuously developing new programmes across multiple therapy areas with a focus on highlighting the physical, social and emotional challenges faced by patients living with chronic illness. At the end of 2020, they were delighted to win Gold for Best Use of Mobile Learning at the Learning Technology Awards and Silver for Best Use of Simulation or Virtual Environment for Learning.
In this session, the ‘A Life in a Day’ Founder, Mark will talk through the journey from the initial concept, sharing how they took an idea, applied their creative development experience and turned a project into a mobile learning solution that can be delivered in the flow of work; to a remote audience.
Plus, you will discover a pioneering new way to blend digital technology and mobile learning with live interactions to deliver a powerful learning experience that engages and embeds learning in “real time” – without stopping your working day.

Award: Gold winner
‘Best use of mobile learning’

“A truly inspirational project which has demonstrated a fundamental understanding of the psychological relationship between a user and their mobile device. This is proof that successful mobile learning can be achieved with little technological innovation but instead focusing on the users and the expected outcomes of the project. The thoughtfulness around not only immersing the user into the perspective of their patient audience but also doing related tasks were inspired. The judges found that it would be all but impossible to deliver the learning experience on anything other than a mobile device, which made this entry stand out as a worthy category winner.”

Award: Silver winner
‘Best use of simulations or virtual environments for learning’

“This submission scores top marks for innovation. As a soft skills training programme, it is one of the best the judges have seen. Attention to detail and thorough research underpin an impactful and truly original simulation of the patient experience. Impact was demonstrated across the four criteria (knowledge empathy, confidence and put patient first). A very worthy silver winner.”
