Member Spotlight: Kirstie Greany – Making the most of membership

Kirstie Greany-10

Welcome to the latest in our Member Spotlight series – this month it’s Elucidat’s Head of Learning Strategy Kirstie Greany’s time to shine.

With a 20-year career in learning design and strategy, Kirstie has worked across a range of roles focused on creating impactful, user-centred learning experiences. She has led teams, developed innovative digital learning solutions, and shaped learning strategies that drive engagement and performance. Her experience in both consultancy and production roles, not to mention her background in creative writing, gives her a broad perspective on what makes learning effective.

Despite her impressive resumé, Kirstie has never seen herself as a natural networker, preferring more authentic and meaningful interactions. When she attended her first LN event – LN Connect in November –  she was drawn to its reputation for being more open and welcoming than traditional conferences. Rather than just exchanging business cards, she wanted to meet people in a way that felt real: putting faces to names, understanding their work, and forming true connections. What she found was a space where conversations flowed naturally, both in sessions and in casual networking moments, helping her build a more authentic and engaged professional community with whom to share her content.

When asked what advice she would give new members, Kirstie admits she’s still looking into how to get the most out of her membership. “I probably need to apply this advice to myself, don’t I?” she jokes. But it’s clear she’s done her homework, even if she’s still deciding where to start. “Get some things in the diary, just to keep yourself in touch with the network. It’s really easy to not do that when you’re really busy, and forget all the good stuff that’s available. But there’s so much in the calendar – from book clubs to this November’s event!”.

As well as events, Kirstie also has her eye on the LN mentoring scheme as a way to get involved. “There’s a lot of new people coming into the industry,” she says. “We can hold best practice through mentoring and try to help each other move forward, especially as things change with AI and technology.”

That’s what stands out most for her, she adds. The openness and supportiveness that is so rife in the Learning Network might well exist in other communities out there, but it’s not so easy to come by.

As for how Kirstie is interacting with her newly expanded network, she loves bringing people together, including through her podcast, Learning at Large, and the regular roundtable events that she hosts with learning leaders and experts.  Recent topics have included driving impact, measurement, use of AI and modern blends:

“What I’m doing in my current role is a lot of listening, and trying to understand what people need. If people are interested in sharing their challenges or ideas, then I’m always looking to have an ear to the ground, and share insights, because we can just do better stuff together.”

Kirstie’s experience underscores the importance of actively engaging with the Learning Network, whether through events, mentoring, or collaboration. By staying connected and exchanging ideas, she’s building a supportive community that’s driving innovation in learning and development, and we can’t wait to see how it grows.
